Means More Rock

Happy Friday, all!

Are you surprised I didn't post this week? Yeah, me either.

Words can't express how happy I am that today is Friday. I 've been waiting for this weekend forever. I haven't had to take medicine for my wisdom tooth pain all week and I can finally drink again. Not that I ever drink that much, but you always want what you can't have. After work today, I'm getting my nails done with my sister and Courtney and then we're gonna chill all night. And maybe play some cards against humanity?!

Tomorrow is the unofficial start of the Philly Summer concert season and we have tickets to MMRBQ (rock music festival hosted by our local station). WMMR Means. More. Rock. Anyway, the lineup for the concert is Fuel, Dropkick Murphys, Redlight King, Volbeat, Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience, the Jim Bruer Band, and Rob Zombie as the headliner. I'm very excited to break out the dark eyeliner tomorrow as I only do for bar nights and rock concerts.

Court and I ordered concert plugs from Amazon because that's what good little future audiologists do to protect they're hearing. They only block the harmful noises, while keeping speech and music clear. AND it means we won't have ringing ears for the next three days, while our boyfriends continue to go deaf and say "WHAT" every two seconds. Our bosses will be proud.

Have a good weekend everyone and remember to tell your mom that you love her!

Work B**ch

S/O to Britney for the post title. OH IT'S MY 100TH POST.

Hey Blogland! How was your weekend?

I wanted to write this post on Friday, but I didn't quite have the words yet. After Amy took me out to my favorite restaurant on Friday night and I told her all about my first week, it finally started to sink in that I have a grownup job in my field. And now I can tell you all about it.

It. Was. Awesome.

But really, I can only try to put into words how amazing it was. My bosses are the nicest people I've ever met (dude they took us out to lunch our fourth day on the job) and I felt like I was learning from the very minute I walked into the door. The patients are so sweet and very welcoming.

I found out at the salary/benefits meeting that they were actually hiring two of us which made me super nervous because I'm always terrified to meet new people. As it turns out, my coworker is really cool and we've already discovered that we work pretty well together! We're also similar in a lot of ways so it's awesome to have a new friend. And nothing brings two people together faster than looking inside each other's ears. P.S. - She likes Game of Thrones AND Harry Potter. Obviously, we're soul mates.

I got new work clothes. (someone remind me to do an ootd pic puhlease) I don't have to scan groceries anymore. I get to help the people. This is great.

In case you care what my eardrum looks like.

Here's to another awesome week! See you tomorrow for Sh*t Men Say with Amanda from Voyage of the MeeMee and Danae from Duh! Danae!

Chins Up, Smile On.

Happy Monday!

Usually, this is the day of the week that I hate most, but I got more than 5 hours of sleep last night and there are only 3 days until national gluttony day Thanksgiving so I'm in a good mood.

I hope you all had a great weekend! Mine was pretty low key, except for the fact that I GOT TO SEE CATCHING FIRE. It everything I wanted it to be and more. I laughed, I cried, I got mad that Plutarch didn't show Katniss his watch, but mostly I fangirled. It is every book lover's dream that the movie adaptation is true to the story line and it was for the most part. I want to see it again and again. What are you waiting for? Walk away from the computer and go see it - I'll wait. When you get back we'll discuss Finnick's abs and Effie's eyelashes.
Since this week is going to be kind of crazy, I'm writing my mini goals list here so I can keep myself accountable.

  • Deaf event essay - due Monday 5 pm
  • Audiology online quiz - due Tuesday 2 pm
  • Online observation and language sampling analysis - due Tuesday night 11:59 pm
  • Evaluation report - due 12/3
To help you get through your Monday...

The Weekend Stole My Health

Hey bliggity bloggers!

I totally would've written a weekend recap yesterday, but I was too busy trying to breathe without coughing. That's right, people. My sister was nice enough to give me a wonderful gift this weekend - her cold. I'm not gonna lie, it was actually my own fault that I caught the Plague. I should probably write my name on my toothbrush so I don't end up using a contaminated one.

Flashback to Friday

I went to class and took the train home with Kristo, but not before watching police write a citation for a dude who's been asking for money on the corner since school started. Funny thing - he was sitting on the ground a block away today, doing the same thing, but without the wheel chair.
When I got home, I found a package from Miss Ashten which actually made me "eeep" out loud. Sarah picked me up for our girl date at Panera, then we went shopping, and back to her house to watch My Fair Lady because I've never seen it. It was just as good as I expected and Audrey Hepburn was flawless.

Saturday morning I clocked in bright and early and worked until 3, at which point I rushed to get the bus THAT CAME 20 MINUTES LATE. Way to go SEPTA. Thankfully, I had Kaylee to keep me company via Google+ hangout! I went home and watched Halloweentown High or showered (I'll let you think on that), then Kristo and I went over Amy's house to watch The Wizard of Oz because he's been living under a rock never seen it before. Boyf liked it and it was nice to watch one of my favorite movies for the first time in forever.

On Sunday, I woke up feeling a little under the weather. After singing at church, our music director and her husband (who are like second parents to me) took me out to breakfast at an adorable coffee shop where we drank tea and coffee out of these awesome mugs.
As the day went on, I started to feel more and more craptastic. And I was forced to accept the fact that I was actually sick. BLEH.

I woke up yesterday morning and felt like I got hit by a mack truck so there's that. I took Dayquil *gag* when I got to school and napped for 2 hours. Took a stat test, emailed my essay to my ASL professor, went home, ate and slept.

Now I'm trying to clear my head for a group assignment that I have to do later, but the stuffiness is making that hard. MORE MEDS!

Hope you all have a great day and manage to avoid this nasty bug that's going around!

Welcome to Monday

Hello everybody!

I'm so not in the mood for a weekend recap or a weekly wishes post today. My weekend was great, just not worthy of it's own post and I'm too involved with the busy-ness of this upcoming week to even think about goals for myself.

Last week, my weekly wishes were to

1. Get myself organized - I found 2 awesome apps to help me get organized. I downloaded the Wunderlist app and the Business Calendar from the Google Play store. I really love the Business calendar because I can color code my classes, work, and church schedules while setting my non-existent social life to my favorite color. Wunderlist is also pretty cool with its abilities to add separate lists for every aspect of your life and the ability to mark priority tasks. These two have a been a life-saver this week so I'm glad I found them.

2. Review for the GREs - Well I read all about the test and started the practice questions and didn't do too horribly, but I didn't get very far in yet so we'll see how that goes.

3. Clean my room - DONE. Did it last night before bed. It wasn't even that much of a mess. It was more like my hampers, closet, and bureau had exploded. It's all good now.

4. Find inspiration - This is a really easy goal if you just look around you or find the beautiful parts of the internet. I'm most proud of achieving this goal last week, which brings me to the real point of today's post.

Everyone hates Mondays, but this should help make this Monday at least a little more bearable. I'm sharing my inspiration (reblogged from Tumblr) with you. Enjoy!

Hope your Monday is fantastical!

I'd Rather Be Sleeping

It's Monday and I'm not going to pretend to like it.

I hope you all had an awesome weekend! I had so much fun with my family this weekend, but I won't have time to write about it until tomorrow or Wednesday. #sadpanda
Yes, I actually sent this Snap out last night.
After enjoying myself all weekend, I got home to a messy room(why do I do this to myself?) and a 4-6 page paper that I hadn't started writing yet(still working on it). These guys were pretty decent writing buddies, but I could not concentrate no matter what task I was working on.

I guess it's time to get off Twitter and get back to my actual schoolwork. To the dual monitors, Batman!

Any tips for getting stuff done when you can't concentrate?

See ya when I see ya!

"Their Subway is as Dirty as Ours!"

Happy Monday, bloggy peeps!

Did yous have a good weekend? Try not to judge my use of that 2nd person plural - it's Philly's equivalent of y'all so I think I'll keep it.  Anywho, after last week's record-breaking heatwave, it's finally a cool 75°. I was a busy bee this weekend so here's a a kind of picture-heavy recap

Friday was a busier than normal night at work. I got a real workout lifting heavy-ass milk and egg crates to stock them in the fridge. Picture a 100-lb girl lifting shit that's 40% of her weight and you have me. Basically, I'm a beast. I stopped at Wendy's on the way home and got a chicken sandwich and an sweet tea. This was not one of my finest ideas due to the fact that I woke up in the middle of the night and NEVER WENT BACK TO SLEEP.

10:40 pm - eat sammich and drink tea
12:30 am - lay down in bed, look at the clock
2:15 am - roll over, look at clock ---> hate life
3:47 am - wide awake ----> still hate life
count sheep-->meditate-->take Benadryl-->drink warm milk-->pray
4:08 am - tweet about hating life
5:50 am -  look at clock ---> contemplate banging my head into a wall
6:30 am - alarm goes off ---> cry

Saturday after pulling myself together, I got out of bed to figure out what da hail I was gonna wear to the Phils - Mets game in NYC. I was told not to wear Phils gear because my dear old dad was worried for my safety and  "there's lots of nutjobs out there." Okay, I would've been fine if I wore a red hat or my Utley jersey. Yeesh.

So we get to Penn Station walk to Times Square and hop on the subway to go to Citi Field. I'm sitting on the train and I realize it's about as dirty as the Broad Street Line at home, which is comforting. However, we don't have mariachi bands playing for money on our public transpo.
We get to the stadium and people are super friendly and offer to take our picture in front of the Mets Big Apple.
Everyone is so nice. Apparently the shitty Mets fans everyone talks about aren't so shitty. The new stadium is beautiful and the food was fan-friggin'-tastic.

Exhibit A:
Exhibit B:

'Shroom Burger (vegetarian) Crisp-fried portobello mushroom filled with melted muenster and cheddar cheeses, topped with lettuce, tomato and ShackSauce
When we got to our seats, it was cool because we weren't in the sun, but then the devil sat his ass crack next to us.
So we went down in the shade to walk around where I got these pics of Delmon Young batting and my boyfriend Cole Hamels pitching.
Getting on with things, we left early due to heat exhaustion and the Phils getting their asses handed to them where we refreshed with cold drinks at Starbucks between Times Square and Penn Station. Then we got on the train home, ordered BBQ from a delish place around the corner and I watched HGTV with my mom for about 8,434,234 hours.

On Sunday morning, I sang at church at 10:00 and then headed to Kristo's house for breakfast and stayed til dinner. I made him watch Pitch Perfect (which he ended up liking) and he made me watch Dark Shadows (which I did NOT end up liking).  THE NEW CATCHING FIRE TRAILER CAME OUT. And I had 2 beers, which meant I was not writing this post last night because I am a lightweight. Yes, I'm useless after a couple drinks, but it does mean I'm a cheap date haha!
Ignore the goober next to me. He likes to awkwardly ruin my selfies. ;)

Weekend Work Grind

Hey all, I hope you had a great weekend! I didn't really do anything exciting(unless you count declaring war on the garden bugs that keep finding their way into our house). Since college is hella expensive, I work part-time as a cashier/stocker on Friday and Saturday nights at a local grocery store. I don't always get to have exciting stories to tell on Mondays because cashiering is about as exciting as it sounds.

When you work retail or in a supermarket it's hard to stay enthused so you have to find ways to entertain yourself. After mentally writing a million posts about work in-between scanning items for bitchy customers, I decided to just jump in and put something out here in Blogland for everyone to see. Without further ado, I bring you the very first edition of Shit I See at Work!

Okay so first up is just one of the many goofy safety signs that are put up in the break room every month. Other titles include Cracked Floor Tile and Marinara Mayhem. I think Doorway Downpour is pretty appropriate for this month anyway.

Next is the lovely safety sign that resides on our cardboard baler. I use this machine a lot, but I still get the heebiejeebies every time I look at this damn warning label. It basically produces the same shiver as nails on a chalkboard. Disclaimer: I don't do well with broken bones, needles, or detached body parts.

Here we have a hard-working dirt trap that lives under the conveyor belt. Now onion peels I understand, but part of a blonde weave and cat litter gives me something to think about.

*if you don't know what a weave is, click here*

I found this  weapon knife hiding in a milk crate under a stack of chairs in the breakroom the other day. What's not pictured is the the tiny Svedka bottle hiding under the green signs. I wonder if the boozer is the same person leaving Coors Light cans in the ladies room once a week.

Last, but not least, is the sweet gift my friend Hannah left on the table for me. I love how she always has my back and protects the Boston Creme donuts for me.

I hope you all enjoyed the first installment of Shit I See @ Work! I'm glad I can share this wild part-time cashier's journey with you.

When Sunday rolled around and all the working was done, I finally got to watch the rest of The Perks of Being a Wallflower with Kristo. He might've liked it even more than I did. Go figure. Well maybe he'll be cute and make me a mix tape. *wink wink*

Long Weekend, Long Post

After finishing up my summer class last Monday, I couldn't wait for this weekend to finally get here.

On the Fourth, my friend, Sarah and I went to the movies so we could beat the heat 'cause you know, a five-day wave of 90 degrees wasn't long enough already. Ironically, we went to see the Sandra Bullock and Molly McCarthy's new movie, The Heat. It was hilarious. I laughed from the opening credits straight through to the end credits. I loved it so much I went to see it again on Saturday night. After the movie, we hit up Red Robin and went back to her house where we ate some more and watched Jurassic Park, What About Bob, and I Love You, Man. It was the chill day I needed to unwind after 5 straight months of hell school.

patriotic ootd and cake for breakfast bc this is America.
On Friday, I slept in and went to visit my Mom-Mom and then went to work from 5-10. While I was there dealing with all the crazies customers, I started to mull over the idea of writing a series about the people I encounter there, and it might just become a thing on this blog. I'll talk about that another time. My cousins and mom picked me up from work and we went to the diner and then home to spend some quality time with each other.

add laptops and that was basically our Friday night

Saturday, I worked from 8:30-2ish. I went home early because it was so incredibly slow. I guess the holiday weekend meant everyone was barbecuing(sp?) and not grocery shopping. MUST BE NICE. I went home, showered and went out with my mom, sister, and cousin to see The Heat again. I love looking at everyone else's reactions when I already know what's gonna happen. After the movie, we went to our favorite diner and I went out with my best friend and our boyfriends to the bar. It was a so much fun catching up with them.

SUNDAY! I've been waiting for this Sunday since our 5 yr dating anniversary in March when Kris got us tickets for WICKED! When I was done singing at 11:45 mass, we went to Longhorn Steakhouse for lunch. I always love their food, so I was expecting the parmesan crusted asparagus to be delish. They changed my life. So GOOD. I need to figure out how to make them asap because I want them all the time. I mean look at these babies.
go try them...now!

The closer we got to the Academy of Music, the more I started to freak out. I wanted to see this show since my junior year of high school and it was almost here. I didn't even complain about how hot it was walking from the train station to the theatre (96 degrees, btw). Anyway, once we got into our front row, center-stage seats, I cried. I was so overwhelmed with happiness that I couldn't contain myself. We were so close to the stage! The pit conductor was literally sitting inches in front of me.

our view
The show was phenomenal, I can't even say I have a favorite scene because it was all so awesome. We were even lucky enough to have the actress who played Elphaba on Broadway and who holds the record for most performances in that role. Talk about talent. If you get the chance, go see Wicked, the soundtrack has been stuck in my head all day long.

I hope you all had an awesome holiday weekend!
